Benjamin Edwin Slinger is a northern born visual artist based in London, their practise deals with social, economic and politically driven dystopian themes through material assemblage, drawing, painting and writing.
Abuse of power, masculinity and the semiotics of civil disobedience are examined using visual cues from design history and sci-fi/fantasy universes in order to examine the social relationship of class, violence and perceptions of class within popular culture.
The work examines the failings of parody as a critically rigorous vehicle by replicating it as a gesture alongside popular characters, political cartoons and depictions of state representatives. These symbols are broken down and reformed into pseudo states reflecting their histories and contemporary positions
